How to Stay Safe When Showing a House

Words cannot express the sadness many feel over the murder of real estate agent Beverly Carter. As the real estate world grieves the loss of one of their own, it is a good time to remind all agents to stay when showing a house.

When showing a home to a potential buyer, use the buddy system. As a co-worker, friend, or family member to come with you and always let people know where you are.

Always meet a potential client at your office first. Ask for identification and introduce them to your co-workers.

Take a self defense class and carry pepper spray. Hopefully you will never need to use it, but you should always be ready to defend yourself.

Trust your gut. If the situation doesn't feel right, leave. Don’t worry about offending the client, your safety is top priority.

What are some tips and safety techniques you use when showing a house?
