Defining Success and Reaching Your Goals

Tony Robbins once said, “If you want to be successful, find someone who has achieved the results you want and copy what they do and you’ll achieve the same results.” This statement has had a profound impact on my life especially when it's come to finding a mentor to learn from. As I've moved forward with my career I have found that sometimes your "mentor" may not be a person but a book or something else the propels you forward, teaches you something new, or reiterates an idea or belief you need to hear again.

As I write about the role of the mentor, I cannot help but reflect on why mentors are important to helping you reach your goals. The dictionary defines the word goal as, "the result or achievement toward which effort is directed; aim; end." But how do you know you have reached your goal or more so, what if your goal doesn't give you the joy you thought it would?

How do you define success?

Our culture seems to be so wrapped up in the idea of fame and fortune, do we have to known by all to feel successful? What about the young mother who goes back to college, the teacher who inspires, or the stay home dad, are they not a success?

Understanding what success means to you and having a vision is key to reaching your goals. What is your life's purpose? What drives you to accomplish your goals and keep moving forward? If you are not sure what your life purpose is, then now is the time to raise your standards and find out what you really want in life. Keep challenging yourself to be a better person than you were the day before. One way to do that is to change your standards to achieve success.

According to Tony Robbins, you create your life through the rituals you perform daily. Rituals are where the power is. Look at your huge challenges and break them down to little bit size rituals ~ what kind of changes could you master in your life if you completed a small task each day to take you towards your goal?

Raise your standard for your life and create the rituals around your dream to have the life you want and are proud of.
