Thank You to All Who Joined Us for Sounds of Freedom

Thousands converged at Layton Commons Park on June 21 to enjoy a car and motorcycle show, drawings, and a flag ceremony. The free event, called Sounds of Freedom, was sponsored by the Military Task Force, a non-profit group working directly with Northern Wasatch Association of Realtors (NWAOR).

L.T. Weese is the director of the group, and has overseen the Sounds of Freedom event since 2002. He said it has grown by leaps and bounds.

This year’s event was extra special because former Mayor Steve Curtis was honored in a special ceremony. Curtis who died unexpectedly earlier this year was a huge supporter the Sounds of Freedom event in a great way.

“Mayor Curtis always knew about our events and truly supported us.  He along with the NWAOR saw the need to have and event where the entire community could come together and say 'thank you' to the ones that gives us our freedoms,” Weese said.

“'Sounds of Freedom' is no longer just a car show, it’s not just an event showing support for our troops, it is so much more than that. It’s the 'SOUNDS' of freedom which means so many things. Yes, to me the F-16 flying overhead or that troop shooting upon our enemy is a 'sound' of freedom, but so is that politician standing at the hill, that hot rod revving his motor up on a Friday night or that civilian deciding that he is going to roll up sleeves and make a difference in their community.  All of these 'sounds' scream freedom, but none of them would of been celebrated on June 21, in the Layton Commons Park, if it wasn't for the late Mayor Steve Curtis,” Weese said.

Sounds of Freedom was an amazing success that easily doubled from last year.

The only question now is: what fun event will the Military Task Force do next?
